Thoughts in Candle Light
The Colour Red
In the gentle flicker of the candle light
our emotions ebb and flow.
The wax lingers on the candle side
and shares memories of times before,
when friendship gave way to more.
Never the forbidden fruit
and yet, something illicit.
The crescendo of light from the crystal glass’s,
our minds are heady from the wine we drink,
deep, dark red, like the essence of blood
running through our veins.
Pulsating heart, as if to burst,
as laughter is overcome by lust.
I dip my finger into the melted wax
and recoil from the sharp sting of heat,
just like my greed needs to be quenched,
and my desire overcome.
Your hands are like a powerful medicine
and my body is your chemistry set.
For from our love and sweat,
a pure perfume will be setting the world alight.
Galloping horses charge forward along the shore,
as your passion, and grace alights the inferno
that I am inside,
My heart is as dust in your hand
so fragile and true,
and yet, I have the power to fill your mind
with magic, myth and truth.
I chance to ask
“Do you have the courage to follow me
Or are your convictions just a passing fancy?”
Only you hold the secret
to the magical, mystery tour.
